Outdoor Education at TPS
Duke of Edinburgh Award
TPS is the largest DofE Centre in Hampshire, and this term over 120 students will have completed Bronze and Silver Awards. Year 10 students passed their Bronze Assessed Expedition with flying colours and Year 11 students took part in the first ever Silver expedition run in open canoes. Their remaining expeditions include hiking in the New Forest and canoeing down the River Thames for 3 consecutive days!
We look forward to welcoming all our Year 9 students on to the Duke of Edinburgh Award next year for an experience to remember and valuable skills when applying for jobs and further education.
Our sailors have now completed 10 weeks of sailing funded by Sport England and we look forward to offering the same opportunity across the whole school next year. After-school sailing will be available to all year groups in the summer term. Four students competed in the National Schools Sailing Competition this year - congratulations to Archie Primrose, Sam Bradshaw, Georgina Cosens and Maddie Green, who all competed at the National Schools Sailing competition this year, and we look forward to our newest sailors competing next year!
Outdoor Activity Taster Days
This term students in Year 7 and 8 have been given a chance to spend a whole day trying out outdoor activities including giant paddle-boarding, open canoeing, climbing and team-building activities. This has been extremely popular and we will be running further trips next year to give everyone a chance to be involved. It’s a great day for students to try out something new, discover a new sport and develop good relationships with like-minded people at the same time.
