Callum and Jessica Make Their Mark
Following a nationwide democratic voting process by 11-18 year olds, our Head Boy, Callum King has been elected as a Member of the UK Youth Parliament for Hart, Rushmoor and East Hants. Year 9 student, Jessica Minton has been elected as his deputy. The students are 2 of just 8 representatives in the whole of Hampshire, and they will be spending the year debating and campaigning across the county and the entire country.
The UK Youth Parliament provides opportunities for 11-18 year olds to use their voice in creative ways to bring about social change. The Members organise events and projects, run campaigns and influence decision makers on the issues which matter most to young people.
Callum and Jessica will attend a Convention in London in October prior to the Youth Parliament coming together in November to debate and decide in their House of Commons sitting the most important issue that they will campaign on for the year ahead. They will decide this from the top 5 issues voted on by young people across the UK from the forthcoming Make Your Mark ballot. The UK Youth Parliament is the only group other than MPs that is allowed to sit in the House of Commons.
Congratulations, Callum and Jessica - we are very proud of you!
