Careers Fair@TPS: Building Your Future
Last night saw a welcome return after a long absence of the TPS Careers Fair. The Sports Hall was packed with students and parents as TPS played host to over 30 organisations connected with careers.
There were Colleges and Universities setting out their stalls, explaining courses and their benefits, including Alton College, Bohunt Sixth Form, Havant & South Downs College, but also organisations such as the Academy of Contemporary Music. There were Universities offering degrees such as University of Portsmouth, Winchester and Chichester, and there was also a focus on vocational colleges such as Basingstoke College of Technology and the National Construction College. Representatives from local and national industry including Estee Lauder, Arup, IBM, Alitex and Moneybarn were also there. Hundreds of Year 9, 10 and 11 students attended and feedback was universally overwhelmingly positive.
One parent emailed, "I just wanted to say a huge well done for a fantastic careers event this evening! [My daughter] left the evening buzzing with excitement about future courses and opportunities. It was brilliant. Thank you for organising it”.
There was positive student feedback, too:
“I think the Careers Evening was great; it showed me new options that I hadn’t considered before like an apprenticeship over perhaps university. The job people were really helpful with explanations and occasionally gave you assorted freebies!” Vicky Kendall Weiss
“I found it really insightful to be able to see all the different opportunities there were. The people who were running each stand were really kind and inviting and were able to tell me loads about how to get to where I wanted. I really enjoyed the evening and found it really helpful!” Sophie Honey
“I am now buzzing with ideas about my career options!” Lily West
Thank you to Mrs Heath and Mr Curtis-Raleigh for organising a great event.
