When a small school in China included a question to its 11 year-old pupils earlier this week asking, “If a ship is carrying 26 sheep and 10 goats, how old is its captain?” it caused a storm of controversy.
Many were critical of the question as it is “unsolveable”. However, the school maintained that it was trying to encourage critical thinking and “thinking outside the box” in its students.
