Key Stage 3 STEM Trip

12 Year 7 and 8 girls spent an inspirational day at Land Rover BAR (Ben Ainslie Racing) in Portsmouth, aimed at encouraging interest in STEM-based careers.

They spent time talking to female professionals in STEM jobs, and were able to ask questions about their careers and choices in small groups.

The girls had a session with an empowerment coach, who demonstrated how a growth mindset differed from a 'fixed' one, and how they could change it.

They spent time trying out the 'tech' room, with devices that produced sound in the brain when held to your skull, a wind tunnel to test out their sail design, and a prototype of the boat that will be used in the next Americas Cup'!

Finally, they had a Q and A session with a Mars Rover buggy designer and witnessed the buggy’s capabilities.

Mrs Westbury said, “All in all, it was a great day and the girls enjoyed it immensely.”
