Andrew and Callum Bounce to Success
Andrew Lewis and Callum Spiers, students in Years 11 and 10 respectively, returned from the Trampoline League National Finals in Sheffield recently with an impressive clutch of medals:
Andrew won Gold in the Double Mini Trampoline (DMT) and Bronze in Trampoline 15-16s, whilst Callum secured a Silver in the 13-14s DMT and 5th in Trampoline.
Andrew trains 3 times a week with the Portsmouth Trampoline Club, whilst Callum trains 4 times a week with the Alpha Trampoline Club in Alton.
Last weekend, both boys took part in a friendly gala competition in Hindhead, and compete regularly across the region.
Andrew said, “I want to take trampolining to the next level, but it will take time. There are many Olympic-standard trampolinists who enter these competitions! Daniel Berridge is an Olympic DMT trampolinist, and he really inspires me.”
Andrew also plays the violin and is working at Grade 7. Sometimes he is torn between this and his trampolining. He added, “I have a concert coming up soon, which is the day before the Trampolining Schools Regional Competition!”
Callum concluded, “At the moment, trampolining is more of a hobby for me, although I think I would like to take it further. Currently I also help out with younger gymnasts on Saturday mornings before training.”
