Education Secretary visits TPS
The Rt Hon Damian Hinds, Secretary of State for Education and East Hampshire MP, visited the school this afternoon. He came to congratulate the students and staff on our recent Outstanding Ofsted report and meet the School Council. He had lunch with the students and later gave a talk about how democracy works in the UK before taking questions from the school’s student leadership.
The students quizzed the Minister on lots of topics including Brexit’s impact on young people, education funding, mental health and the day in the life of an MP.
Damian said “It is great to be back at TPS. It has always been a school close to my heart after spending a week here just before my first election to Parliament to learn about education.
It is fantastic that TPS has secured this Ofsted Outstanding judgement and it is a great reflection of the leadership of Mark Marande, hard work of the staff and the benefits of the wider family of the Bohunt Education Trust.
I congratulate the staff, students and parents on this Outstanding result for Petersfield!”
Principal Mr Marande said “It was great for our student leadership to meet Damian and to explore how the government works in our country. They asked lots of very relevant questions and were able to share their views about the priorities for young people. I’m confident it will have inspired many of our students to continue in their leadership pathway beyond TPS.”
