TPS Best Performing School in East Hampshire & Havant Areas

TPS Best Performing School in East Hampshire & Havant Areas

Last week the provisional secondary school GCSE performance tables were published for 2017 by the Department for Education.  They show that TPS is now the highest performing school in both the East Hampshire and Havant districts (our closest 15 secondary school neighbours).  Our very high 'Progress 8' score means that students at TPS make significantly more progress than students in other schools both locally and nationally.  Additionally, for the whole of Hampshire (over 70 secondary schools), TPS is now the eigth highest performing school.

This follows our record-breaking GCSE results this summer, which were the highest in the 59-year history of the school, with 80% of our students achieving a good pass in both English and Maths.  This is despite the new-style, more challenging GCSEs taken for the first time this year.  These GCSEs are recognised by the new grade 1 - 9 system replacing the previous A* - G grades.  Our students were also awarded significantly more of the new grade 9s, equivalent to an A**, compared to the national average with over 40 of these grades going to TPS students.  Other subject areas of outstanding success with over 90% 'good' GCSE pass rates include Triple Science, Spanish, Geography, History, RE, Art, Drama, Music, Media and PE.

Emma Walker, from South Harting, was the highest performing girl with grade 9 in both English and Maths, six A* grades and three A grades.  She said “I’m blown away by these results and I’m so happy!  The support from everyone at TPS has been fantastic!”  Samuel Brown, from Denmead, was the highest performing boy, also with grade 9 in both English and Maths, six A* grades and two A grades.  He said, “I am extremely happy with my results.  I have had great support from all the teachers and would really like to thank them all.  I am going to miss the incredibly supportive atmosphere here and would like to wish all my friends the best of luck for their futures".

I am incredibly proud of all of the students who have achieved these record results through countless hours of hard work and dedication.  Our staff, governors and parents have supported the students superbly as we've built a culture of the highest achievement here at TPS and these results are a testament to this.  Personally, I'm delighted that more students than ever will be leaving TPS with such fantastic GCSE results and going on to their first choice for the next stage of their education.

Well done to all of the staff, parents and students in the Class of 2017!
