‘Winchester graduates awarded ‘Best Emerging Company’ at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011’

‘A theatre company founded by graduates from the University of Winchester has scooped the Total Theatre Award for Best Emerging Company at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe’.

ShadyJane is a local devising theatre collective who produce performances, events and educational workshops. The company is currently an Associate Artist at The Point Theatre in Eastleigh and has worked closely with their in-house theatre group and taught in schools across Hampshire. All of the company are educated to Masters Level in Drama and Devised Performance and are all CRB checked.

ShadyJane feels that The Studio@TPS is an ideal setting for a thriving resident youth theatre, which employs contemporary theatre practice to challenge and develop the confidence and ability of young people. They have created a current and unique programme at The Studio@TPS for young people to experience all aspects of theatre and performance.

The programme covers skill development through practical workshops, physical theatre, scripted and devised theatre and many more skills and elements related to performance.

Classes

Day/time: ShadyJane’s Studio takes place every Monday at 6:30pm – 8:30pm during term time at The Studio@TPS

Age: To join and become a valued member you need to be between 14-18 years old.

Experience: No experience necessary.

ShadyJane Per4m (8 – 11 yrs old)

For the younger age range, ShadyJane run the Per4m group at The Studio@TPS , which gives children a professional introduction to theatre and the skills involved with theatre production.

The students develop a range of theatre skills and present a production at the end of the term.

Classes

Day/time: Per4m takes place every Monday during term time from 5:15 – 6:30pm in The Studio@TPS.

Age: 8 – 11years old.

Experience: No experience necessary.

Cost: £44 a term.  



Singing for Fun

Carolyn Robson is a professional singer and musician specialising in traditional folk song and dance. She studied at the London Royal Academy of Music and has taught in schools in England, Scotland and Wales. She has been a presenter for Radio 4 Schools’ broadcasts as well as the Education Officer for the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS). Her extensive repertoire consists mainly of songs from her native Northumberland and Scotland as well as from other parts of the British Isles.

Carolyn has a wealth of singing and teaching experience and has made countless club and festival appearances, featuring in HTV's 2004 documentary on Cecil Sharp. She is a member of the acappella trio ‘Craig; Morgan; Robson’ and also performs with guitarist Kevin Dempsey and accordionist Karen Tweed. Carolyn directs two Hampshire community choirs in Alton and in Petersfield and runs workshops with other choirs nationwide and at festivals and summer schools.

Day/time: Singing for Fun takes place every Wednesday during term time from 8:00pm – 9:30pm at The Studio@TPS

Cost: £5/week payable on the door.




Get on song with Petersfield Rock Choir 

 

Do you sing in the shower or croon along to your car radio, yet have never had the confidence to take it further? Now you can! Rock Choir, the UK's largest and most popular amateur contemporary choir, offers weekly rehearsals here at The Petersfield School every Tuesday from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. And you can even try a taster session for free.

 

Adults of all abilities are welcome. There are no auditions and no requirements to read music. Members learn popular contemporary songs, leading to performances at exciting local and national events. Next summer, members of Petersfield Rock Choir are taking part in a mass performance at London's O2 Arena. Any new members joining between now and next July will get the chance to sing there too.

 

Local Rock Choir leader, Sarah Manton, said: "Being in Rock Choir is a great way to make new friends and develop your singing skills. So far this year we've also helped raise over £350,000 for charity through our performances and membership events. If you love singing, and fancy doing something fun and different with your Tuesday evenings, then Rock Choir is for you!"
