Home Learning Booklets

Following a review of the way homework was set and completed we have decided to implement a more structured programme of tasks for pupils at Key Stage 3. These booklets contain the Home Learning tasks for the autumn term.
Our aim is to ensure that pupils and parents have a clear idea of the Home Learning set and when it should be completed and handed in.  The Home Learning tasks will be varied with an emphasis on extended study and independent research.
Each subject will set an extended Home Learning task that should take between three to four hours to complete over a four week period. English, mathematics, and science will set two tasks per term whilst the other subjects will set one task per term.

The tasks have been staggered so that the pupils only have to hand in a maximum of two Home Learning tasks at any one time. The timetable on page 5 shows exactly when each Home Learning task is to be completed.  The letter ‘H’ shows when the task is to be handed in. The pupil’s work will normally be marked and returned within two weeks, this is shown as a small ‘r’ on the timetable. If the deadline is close to the end of term the return date will be at the start of the next term.

The booklet contains detailed instructions on what the pupils are expected to do, how to complete the task, and an extension task for those pupils who wish to challenge themselves. There are also details of the help available, should a pupil have difficulties completing the work.

All Home Learning tasks will be marked using a six point scale as shown below.
