School uniform is a very important part of our ethos at TPS. Good behaviour goes hand in hand with a smart appearance. Some aspects of our dress code are designed to meet Health & Safety guidelines. Recent Government guidelines stress the benefits of school uniform – they also clarify that schools have the right to send children home to change if they are found wearing incorrect uniform.
It is imperative that students dress correctly in school. Above all, we ask that students exercise their common sense and consider the effect of how they appear and of what they bring to school on others.

Only the following are permitted:
Ear studs – plain silver/gold, maximum 1 per ear, to be worn in the ear lobe (not bars, hoops, rings, etc) Make-up should be discreet at all times. One chain / necklace, but not on the outside of the shirt, one bracelet, one ring of modest size and style, e.g. a signet ring. Hair should be clean, tidy and presentable, in a reasonable style and a natural colour (not two-tone). Heads should not be shaven. Blazers should be worn at all times, except when "shirt sleeve order” is specifically authorised by the Principal or when teachers specifically allow permission for removal in lessons. Shirts should have a full complement of buttons including a top button at the neck. Shirts should be worn tucked in at all times and not be too tightly fitted. Ties must be worn at a reasonable length and tied close to the collar. Trousers must be black and worn at the waist; they should not be excessively flared, made of denim or corduroy or have slits, embellishments or revealing waistlines.
Skirts must be
grey, knee length and an appropriate fit (not skin tight or rolled up
at the waist) and can only be bought from our 3 approved suppliers: Frasers, Alsorts and Skoolkit.
Plain coats or anoraks (not denim) may be worn OVER THE BLAZER to and from school. Plain black sensible school shoes only (not trainers, high heels or other highly embellished footwear). We strongly recommend that all students who cycle to school wear a cycle helmet, use lights when cycling in the dark and ensure that their bike is in full and safe working order. Bikes must be padlocked in the cycle shelter. |
The following are not permitted:
Any facial jewellery other than a maximum of 1 ear stud in each ear lobe (i.e. no nose studs, eyebrow bars, spacers etc) unless these form part of a student’s ethnic and cultural background. Unnatural coloured streaks in hair (e.g. blue, purple etc) and gimmick hairstyles. Chewing gum is forbidden. Students are permitted to use MP3s etc during school breaks only. If found being used in lessons such items will be confiscated and parents asked to collect them. We discourage the use of mobile phones for Health & Safety reasons, but accept that they are sometimes necessary. They should be turned off in all lessons. We will not accept responsibility should a student’s mobile be lost, stolen or damaged. Please do not wear or bring expensive coats, watches, jewellery, pens or large amounts of money. We cannot be responsible for the loss of such items. Illegal, offensive or harmful items, materials or substances are strictly forbidden. The possession of drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, tobacco, lighters or matches will not be tolerated. In addition spray deodorants are banned as they can trigger Asthma attacks. Medicines, except inhalers, must not be carried in school. These should be left with the School Nurse when it is necessary to take medication at school. Coats must not be taken into the Hall for assembly or at break times. |
Students who break the code, who cannot rectify it immediately (e.g. by wiping off excessive make-up), should expect to be sent home to sort it out. We will try to contact parents to inform them of this. We will particularly contact parents of children who cannot walk home to collect them. If this is not possible we will set the student to work on independent study in an appropriate supervised location, but s/he will not be allowed to attend lessons or socialise until such time as the problem is rectified.
If we deem it necessary to confiscate an item of clothing, jewellery or possession from a child, which the Government clearly states we are entitled to do, we will only return it to parents, who will have to come and collect it on their child’s behalf. All uncollected items will be held in lost property until the end of each term before going to a charity clothes bank.

Any instances or suspicions re alcohol, drugs etc should be conveyed to the Pastoral Team and/or Senior Staff immediately.
