Young Farmers Dig for Victory

Members of the TPS Young Farmers Club and their parents, siblings and some TPS staff gave up their Sunday morning lie-in to come and prepare part of the school site for a new initiative. Battling the pouring rain, about 25 willing people dug a path, laying matting, edging and woodchip, then planted 30 trees and made 6 raised beds out of wood left over from the new bandstand. These were then filled with newspaper, wood chip, soil and manure.

Science teacher and Young Farmers leader, Sarah Archibald, said, "I am immensely grateful to everyone who turned up today and worked really hard to get this done. We are developing a woodland area with wild flowers at the far end, and the raised beds will be the responsibility of the Young Farmers and members of the school's Additional Learning Centre to tend themselves and choose what to grow. We also hope to raise chickens here.”
