TPS Young Farmers Meet Licky Lambs

Yesterday 11 members of the Young Farmers Club at TPS travelled to Westland Farm near Wickham.

Member of staff Kayleigh showed them her flock and they met the newborn lambs - some were less than 20 minutes old! Unfortunately whilst there, they didn’t see a lamb being born but they did see Kayleigh and her lambing assistant checking pregnant ewes. The students learnt about all the equipment needed for lambing and that a ewe is pregnant for 5-6 months.

The highlight of the trip was giving the 5 orphaned lambs their afternoon bottle feed. They were very friendly and very hungry - one even tried to suckle James’s face once he was finished with his bottle!

Dr Archibald said, "We would like to thank Westland Farm and if you would like to see the lambs, their lambing open days are this weekend.”
