Y8 Boys Qualify for Semi-Finals

The Year 8 boys team finally got to play their Hampshire Cup quarter final yesterday at Hounsdown School after two cancelled attempts due to the recent freezing temperatures. The lads made an electric start to the game with a goal from captain Connor Langan after only a minute.

A dog-eared Hounsdown side weren’t about to give up hope of qualifying for the semi-finals and soon equalised through a fortuitous through ball that had the TPS defence and keeper confused, leaving an easy header into an empty net. Throughout a scrappy first half, TPS just about edged the best of the play but struggled to settle into the sleek passing football they’re used to, and had to battle it out on a compact away ground. Toby Wallace, Billy Connor, Jack Noble and Connor Langan created most of the attacking chances and it was Langan who led his side into the half time break 3-1 up, scoring all Petersfield’s goals.

Hounsdown came out more determined in the second half, and their tactic to man mark Langan momentarily shifted the emphasis of the game. They came back from behind twice, making the score 4-4 and taking the tie into extra time. Even another Langan goal couldn’t stop the additional minutes and although a tense affair, it was Petersfield who dominated the two halves of extra time. When it looked as though Hounsdown’s defence could hold TPS off until penalties, the unrelenting Toby Wallace popped up with a last minute run into the penalty box to finish coolly and put his team into the semi-finals.
