A Week To Remember for Year 10 Jess Minton

This is a week to remember for Year 10 student Jess Minton.  Yesterday, as a Member of the UK Youth Parliament, she was a reader at a Remembrance Service at St Margaret’s Church in Westminster Abbey attended by all MPs including the Prime Minister Theresa May, Jeremy Corbyn, Michael Gove and Speaker John Bercow – see link below:

Jess said, “The opportunity to read at the service was open to over 300 members of the Youth Parliament.  I had to send an 150-word email on why I wanted to do this, and in half term I heard that I was one of only 5 chosen!  We had a rehearsal before the service at 2.00pm and it was great seeing so many famous faces!  Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn were a metre away from me in the front row!  I was very nervous beforehand, but after the readings, John Bercow said Well Done to us; he was really nice and put us at our ease.

St Margaret’s Church is very grand and the congregation was just made up of MPs and readers’ parents.  My parents were excited for me and very proud!”

Jess will be returning to London on Friday for the UK Youth Parliament Debate in the House of Commons where the top 5 issues which were voted for by students nationwide in the Make Your Mark initiative will be discussed.
