Sell-Out Open Mic Night
It was a superb night in the Studio last night for our Spring Open Mic! It was the fullest programme so far with 24 acts from Years 7-11 and a sell-out audience.
An exceptional range of talent was seen from solo acoustic songs to original tracks, rap, drum solos and rock bands. We had two debut performances from new Year 8 bands (still unnamed) - one performed ‘Baggy Trousers’ by Madness, fully dressed for the part with their baggy trousers and shades; and the second Year 8 band performed a serious rock cover of ‘Mr Brightside’ by The Killers.
Other stand-out performances included Solomon Boxley’s original ‘Ugly Town’ for which he’d produced his own backing track; Lucy Norris ‘s moving performance of ‘So Lonely’ by Jorja Smith; Oliver Patient’s clever performance of ‘Black Horse and a Cherry Tree’ using his guitar loop pedal, and a debut performance from Lucy Corcoran of her original song, ‘Mirror’.
The evening concluded with our Year 9 band performing two hits - ‘Smells like Teen Spirit’ and ‘Rockin All Over the World’.
Head of Music, Samantha Wood, said, “Well done to all performers and a big thank you to all staff, prefects and technical team.”
