Year 10 Trip to Oxford University

Recently a group of Year 10 students spent a day at St Edmund Hall Oxford, where they listened to inspirational talks from current and former students, learning about University life including course requirements and debunking myths about student loans. They were given a tour of “Teddy Hall” with its library in an old church, a beautiful chapel, as well as the bar and picturesque courtyard. The Librarian showed the students some ancient books from as early as the 1600s, which they were able to handle and inspect. Everyone was amazed by the books’ remarkable condition, given that they had been handled by many over many years, but learnt that the pages were made from cotton material and they benefited from the natural oil off readers’ hands! The trip opened students’ eyes to the reality and possibilities of University, and many said they now felt motivated to pursue their aspirations.
