History 

We will provide a high-quality history education that will help students gain a 

coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider 

world.  

We will inspire students’ curiosity to know more about the past. 

We will teach students to become game changers by encouraging them to ask 

perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop 

perspective and judgement. 

History helps students to understand British Values through understanding the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.  

Students will build on their Key Stage 2 understanding of historical concepts and themes. Teachers will share schemes of work and expert knowledge through observations and talking about teaching. 

Geography 

‘Many of the world’s current issues – at a global scale and locally – boil down to geography and need the geographers of the future to help us understand them.’ – Michael Palin. 

 The aims are to ensure that all BET Geographers: 

• Receive a challenging and engaging curriculum focused on developing them as geographers
• Develop deep-rooted geographical knowledge of places in the context of both human, physical and relevant geographical processes
• Develop an understanding of relationship and interdependences at a variety of scales
• Develop the ability to question at a high level, debate, discuss and interrogate issues in detail
• Have the ability to use a range of geographical skills
• Have the opportunity to enquire and develop their understanding of fieldwork
• Are regularly challenged to show a high standard of literacy and numeracy

GCSE content and scope are accessible to all through the skills assessed, content and exam structure directly supporting ALA students through support in place SEND, AMA and ALA students personalised approach in mixed ability classes

Ambitious curriculum with literacy and opportunities for students embedded in all aspects of the course from references and detail in essay writing to debate and problem- solving skills for their own personal development.
