Reporting to Parents

Attitude to Learning (ATL) grades, split into four key focus areas for each subject:

Application and Concentration

This represents a student’s ability to remain focused on a task or tasks for a length of time within lessons. This grade also reflects the amount of effort a student makes in class and at home.

Engagement

The degree to which a student is actively engaged in, and contributes to, lessons. This may be reflected by asking questions and contributing to discussions as well as displaying a willingness to seek out and take on extension tasks. The student will also show initiative and take responsibility for his/her own learning.

Ability to Meet Deadlines

This measures the extent to which classwork, homework and coursework is reliably completed and handed in on time; the quality of the work being commensurate with the student’s ability. It also reflects how organised the student is and how proficiently workload is managed e.g. how effectively the student is in planning and managing his/her time.

Being Prepared for Learning

Students consistently arrive to lessons punctually, correctly dressed and with the necessary items and equipment to allow them to take a full and active role within the lesson. Students are quick to settle and respond well to the prompts of the teacher.

Each category contains one of four grades based on a 1 – 4 scale:

1. Outstanding – Exceptional consistency demonstrated in this area

2. Good – Consistency demonstrated in this area

3. Inconsistent – Standards vary. This lack of consistency may adversely affect achievement

4. Unsatisfactory – Standards are often unacceptable. This may have a major impact on achievement

If there is a specific area of concern, this will be noted on the report using one of the following codes:

AST Assessment EQU Equipment
ATT Attendance HWK Homework
BEH Behaviour PAR Participation

I started dancing at 3 and more seriously from the age of 12. I wanted to attend TPS because of their performing arts specialism, and they have given me so many opportunities to perform in dance and drama productions such as “Fame” at the New Theatre Royal Portsmouth and Rock Challenge at the Guildhall.
