On Monday, more than 100 Year 11 students travelled to sunny Brighton for the day to listen to some of the poets that they have been studying over the last year and a half in preparation for their GCSEs.
The students were incredibly lucky to hear from famous, talented poets including Carol Ann Duffy, Simon Armitage, Imtiaz Darker and John Agard – who was particularly popular with the students due to his exciting and dramatic style of reading. The students were given the opportunity to ask the poets what their inspiration was for their poems and learn a little more about the form and structure choices that the poets made too; wonderful additions that they will be able to discuss in their exams.
We also heard from the chief examiner for AQA who was able to tell us exactly what examiners want to see from the students in their unseen poetry answers. Overall, it was an interesting and helpful day.
