As part of our BET10 celebrations, and ERA Fortnight at TPS, students from nine Bohunt Education Trust schools came together today for an extraordinary day dedicated to oracy – the power of speaking and listening – with the support of the incredible team from social enterprise UNLOC.
Throughout the day, students showcased a range of skills as they: conducted research and presented evidence, delivered compelling opening and closing statements, mastered the art of rebuttal and even chaired debates with confidence and clarity.
Rotating between engaging, high-stakes debates, students fearlessly tackled powerful and thought-provoking motions, which included:
“Secondary school students in the UK should be able to shape the curriculum and lessons.”
“All schools should go paperless and replace textbooks with devices or tablets.”
“Bohunt Education Trust should consider one uniform for all institutions belonging to the Trust.”
With energy, insight, and passion, students debated in front of a distinguished panel of BET educational experts which included:
• Gary Green – Director of Improvement and Development
• Jen Comber – Headteacher at Bohunt Wokingham
• Georgette Ayling – Headteacher at Bohunt Horsham
• Helen Blanchford – Director of Personal Development
The room echoed with ideas, courage, and collaboration – reminding us that when we amplify student voice, we empower the leaders of tomorrow.
