Fundraiser for Diabetes UK

Year 10 student Liv B has decided to do the Swim22 challenge this year to raise money for Diabetes UK. She has to clock up 22 miles between 22 July  and 22 October, and is planning to do it over the summer break.

Liv said, “I used to swim competitively with Alton Swimming Club, but now I swim for pleasure. My Mum developed Type 1 diabetes as a child and has now lived with it for over 40 years. At the start she was using glass syringes and huge stainless steel needles, she now has an insulin pump and a sensor on her arm to monitor her blood sugars. Life is very different and that is why I want to raise money to help with funding for research and progress in treating T1 diabetes. I did a fundraising swim for Diabetes UK when I was in Year 7 and raised over £200, but recently Mum has been really poorly and so I wanted to do more fundraising for this great charity.

I am planning to clock up the lengths and swim 22 miles over the summer.”
