On Friday, TPS Eco-Ambassador Maja Ostersen spoke to a room of around 400 delegates at the East Hampshire COP26 in Alton! Maja wanted to explain how much young people like herself care for the environment and are keen that the COP26 meeting in Glasgow delivers real results.
Five other Hampshire schools took the stage, including Bohunt Liphook, and inspired the room with news of their eco-art projects, biodiversity surveys, alternative energy plans and tips to reduce waste across their schools.
Maja did brilliantly and got lots of really positive feedback. The Eco Club at TPS are extremely proud of Maja and would like to thank her for being such a good representative. She spoke to Shine Radio as well as to the Petersfield Post, and has no doubt inspired others to stand up and speak for what they believe in.
Maja reported back on her experience:
“On Friday 8 October 2021 I had the privilege of speaking at the Hampshire COP26. I talked about what TPS has been doing to be more eco-friendly and our aspirations for the future. The conference aimed to raise awareness across the district of what is being done locally to reduce carbon emissions, and to inform people of what they can do themselves to reduce their carbon footprint.
As the Eco Ambassador for TPS I am very keen to promote the school’s efforts to be more environmentally friendly, therefore I was very excited to be invited to talk. I enjoyed writing my speech as much as presenting it, since it was great to speak to people from around the school to ask them about their views on climate change.
Within the first ten minutes of the event, I was asked to take part in a radio interview by Petersfield’s Shine Radio. Later on, I was also interviewed by the Petersfield Post. I really enjoyed doing these since I was given the chance to publicise TPS’ Eco Club and inspire more people to help save our planet. It was extremely interesting and fascinating to hear Lord Deben’s talk and to look around the exhibition stalls. I was the last school representative to speak, and it was great to listen to the other schools to gain inspiration for our next projects.
It was an amazing experience presenting in front of around 400 people; it will be a memory which I will treasure forever.”
