Mandarin Students Celebrate Chinese New Year

Over the last couple of weeks, our Mandarin Excellence Programme (MEP) students have been celebrating the Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year. They learned about the myths and stories behind this festival and discovered the qualities of this year’s zodiac animal: the Tiger!

Our Year 8 students were invited to St John’s College in Southsea where they enjoyed a delicious homemade traditional meal and took part in a variety of workshops run by native speaking students. These workshops included calligraphy, origami and learning traditional Chinese New Year songs.  All of our MEP students have also learned a Chinese poem about the New Year and will be taking part in a small video competition.
