TPS students’ hobbies and interests are wide-ranging and 4 Year 9 students are keen bellringers.
James W, Katherine W, Erin H and Lauren K ring bells at St Peter’s Church in Petersfield Square. James started at 11 when the ringing captain approached him and suggested he have a go. He really enjoyed it and encouraged Erin, Lauren and Katherine to join.
They practise on Sunday mornings and Monday evenings, and sometimes join with ringers from other bell towers. They also enter competitions in teams of 6 or 8 or more, depending on the number of bells. Erin is the first amongst the 4 of them to ring bells for a wedding last summer, and got paid for it!
James said, “It’s good fun and involves coordination, teamwork and knowing where everyone else is. It can also be good exercise! Anyone from the age of 11 is welcome to join.”
