Last week, Year 9 and Year 10 CCF Cadets were invited to take part in an Army Challenge Day near the Longmoor site in Bordon.
The sun shone down on the students as they competed with other schools from Hampshire and Kent in challenges set by the different regiments.
The students were able to try their hand at Paintballing, which was a huge hit, and a Dragon’s Den activity which the Year 10 students won with their very own portable communications tower! They also tried equipment that checks for land mines and succeeded in a Vehicle Recovery challenge which involved putting together a winch and moving a jeep uphill as well as simulating what it is like to ‘abandon ship’.
Lunch was a tasty treat from the very generous Army rations, which the majority of the students thought were rather tasty!
The day was topped off with a fun, but grueling PT session, where the students learnt more about the fitness levels the soldiers are put through.
Careers Co-ordinator, Karen Heath, said, “The Cadets developed their problem solving skills, working on leadership skills and team work as well as really enjoying the day. They were a huge credit to the school and took part in all of the activities with great enthusiasm, and their politeness and respect was commented on by some of the regiments.”
Sophie R said, “It was a really fun experience and I definitely feel I know more about the Army now.”
Esme O said, “It was very educational and a fun trip – I would love to do it again!”
Ethan C added, “It really improved my mindset about the Army and I have learnt it is not all about fitness and being strong.
Elijah J concluded, “It was a really enjoyable day and it changed my view of the Army – in a good way!”
