Year 9 student Dan S has been playing Volleyball for 3 years, training at South Hants Volleyball Club in Horndean.
He recently travelled to the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering to trial for the England Cadet Under 17 squad, competing against 80 of the best players across the country born in 2006 and 2007.
Dan was successful and has achieved a 12 month place on the programme. He will attend 2-day and 4-day weekend training camps in Kettering once a month, and will compete for selection to represent England at international tournaments in Italy and Denmark.
Dan said, “After missing out last year during lockdown, it was really great to have my hard work pay off. Volleyball is not a particularly big sport in the UK but really popular elsewhere, including Japan, Italy and Denmark. I would like to play professionally there in the future.”
