During half term, Year 8 Ollie M competed in the annual Hampshire School Golf Tournament at the Hockley Golf Club. This was the second year Ollie participated in this tournament on behalf of TPS and this time around at the age of just 13, he won the Boys U16 section!
Ollie said, “On the morning of the Championship I thought it might not go ahead due to the dreadful weather conditions, but it was on, so I was determined to play my best to try and win. The first nine holes were brutal, cold, rainy and windy, all uphill, wet and thick rough along with wet fairways and tough greens.
I shot a 44 (+10) on the front nine. I was disappointed and thought I was out of the running but never gave up hope as there were another nine holes to play and conditions were improving. I made a birdie on the par 5, 11th hole, which changed everything. I continued to give myself birdie opportunities and shot -1 on the back nine, playing as well as I possibly could and went on to win the gross champion and nett. I’m so happy and proud of my mental strength, something I couldn’t have done a year ago. It was such an amazing experience and to represent TPS made it even more special!”
Ollie has now qualified for the National Schools Tournament which will take place in July 2024 and will represent TPS against the best in the country – well played, Ollie, we are so proud of you!
