The Expressive Arts Faculty has launched Arts Award with Year 8, a national qualification that recognises students’ contribution to the arts.
This year students are working towards achieving their Bronze Award by completing 4 tasks. Part A is about developing skills in the arts, and for part B students need to be an audience member and respond and share their experience. Part C is a research section learning about the work of artists, crafts people and performers, and finally part D involves sharing an art skill.
Throughout this term the students have been working on their part D, where they are required to share their artistic knowledge and experience with others.
With a little support from Mrs Bailiff, students organised a series of six Art Workshops for our Primary feeder schools. Year 6 pupils were invited to create an abstract art dot inspired by the book ‘The Dot’ by Peter H Reynolds. Our visitors were provided with a wide variety of different art materials with which to explore and experiment with. Year 8 Arts Award students created examples and gave expert tutorials throughout the sessions to support and inspire the Year 6 pupils. The Year 8 students challenged them to be brave, take risks and try something new.
The atmosphere in our newly refurbished, creative art rooms was fantastic. Both TPS students and our visiting students really enjoyed the experience, giving excellent feedback for our Arts Award presenters. Visiting TPS staff remarked upon the vibrancy of the experimental work and the hugely positive engagement by all.
Mrs Bailiff said, “It was a pleasure to welcome so many pupils to our school – we are extremely proud of our Year 8 artists who designed a fabulous experience and conducted themselves so well.”
