Last month, at the age of just 15, Year 10 student Dan S played for the England U17 Volleyball team at the Northern European Volleyball Zone Association (NEVZA) competition in Ikast, Denmark.
This was a 4-day competition where Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Faroe Islands and England went head to head. Dan won 4 junior caps during the competition, and England finished 5th. It was a great experience and they plan to enter the European Championships next year.
Dan trains at the national team camp each month for a weekend, and during the week with Richmond Volleyball Club.
He said, “Volleyball is not yet a big sport in the UK, but Richmond is probably the biggest club in the country. There are lots of opportunities in the USA to get scholarships at Uni/College level, and I am aiming for that!”
